Email: davebradney [AT] headweb [DOT] co [DOT] uk

Dave is the Green parliamentary candidate for Ceredigion.

Dave Bradney was the lead candidate in the Green Party's target region during the first Welsh Assembly elections in 1999.

Dave Bradney is a local journalist in Aberystwyth. He was the third-on-the-list candidate for the European Parliament in Wales. He lives with his family in Llanrhystud.

He has been active in the party since 1986, first in Brent in north-west London and then in Ceredigion after moving to Wales in 1991.

He is a former co-chair of the England and Wales Green Party's regional council, and a former editor of the party's newspaper. He served on regional council for four years, and has just completed a four-year stint as treasurer of Wales GP. He remains treasurer of Ceredigion GP.

Dave co-founded the influential climate change pressure group Global Commons Institute (GCI), helped to develop its now-famous negotiating tool "Contraction and Convergence", and remains closely in touch with the group's work. He is also a member of the Campaign for the Protection of Rural Wales, Friends of the Earth and the wilderness charity John Muir Trust.

Aged 59, he has a first degree in biochemistry, and works as a sub-editor for a local newspaper group based in Aberystwyth. He has a lifetime of experience in print media, general and specialist, in posts ranging from reporter to editor.

In recent weeks Dave has been instrumental in organising two major public meetings in Aberystwyth - the first on the theme of "Energy Beyond Oil" and the second showcasing the views of Aubrey Meyer, the director of GCI, on the future of international climate change negotiations.

The Green Party's campaign in Ceredigion will focus on Green values and energy issues, voicing criticism of "greenwash" schemes which risk undermining the public's confidence in greener ways of running our society.

The candidate is scathing about the Welsh Assembly's plan to promote and subsidise new air transport routes within Wales, and hopes to revive the campaign for a west-coast rail link.

He has spoken out against large onshore wind-energy installations in Mid and West Wales.

Dave believes that the key Green principles are sustainability and subsidiarity, and that these must be pursued by our MEPs. He is concerned about the way the EU is currently structured. Dave is also interested in the question of the EU's geopolitical role.

Dave Bradney is a literate, numerate, well-organised person with democratic instincts, a first degree in Science (Biochemistry). He has had a continuous involvement in the Green movement since the early 1970s and has a professional background in journalism. Since 1986 he has been immersed in the politics, structures, procedures and personalities of the Green Party in England and Wales, and throughout his whole adult life he has had a close interest in political issues of all kinds. Dave has a good grasp of committee procedures, and an ability to negotiate strongly and strike compromises.

Dave is an experienced political campaigner. He was the election agent for the Brent North West London elections from 1986 to 1989 and stood as a local council candidate in Brent in 1988 and 1990. Dave was a regional councillor for the Green Party between 1995 and 1998, and held the Green Party position of regional council co-chair in 1997/98. Dave was the lead candidate on the Mid and West Wales region list in the National Assembly elections, and the Ceredigion constituency candidate in 1999.
